Handling Prints
IMPORTANT
Your fine art print is a delicate work on archival paper. To preserve its condition, it must be handled with care from the moment of arrival. Depending on the size, your print will arrive either:
-
Larger prints: rolled and sealed inside a protective tube.
-
Smaller prints: shipped flat in an envelope with a sturdy backing board.
We recommend taking your print directly to your professional framer before opening, as they have the correct tools, surfaces, and experience to handle fine art materials. If you do decide to open it yourself, please follow the guidelines below.
General Care
-
Do not touch the image surface. Oils and moisture from skin can damage the print. Use clean cotton gloves whenever possible. If gloves are not available, handle only the white borders or the back of the paper.
-
Prepare a clean workspace. Use a large, dry, and dust-free surface such as a desk or table. Wipe it down beforehand.
-
Keep protective layers. Always use the supplied tissue paper as a barrier when unrolling or laying the print flat.
If Your Print Arrives in a Tube (Large Prints)
-
Open the tube carefully. Remove the tape and gently pop out the cap. Never use sharp tools to pry open the tube.
-
Slide the print straight out. Pull gently without angling, which could scratch or crease the paper.
-
Remove the securing wrap. Cut the tape on the outer wrapping paper with scissors or a blade—do not tear or force it off.
-
Unroll in stages. Keep the tissue side down and unroll a section at a time. Use clean weights, books, or magazines to hold down the corners.
-
Allow to settle. Leave the print face down, secured under its tissue, for at least five days before turning it over. Handle only by the borders when viewing.
If Your Print Arrives Flat (Smaller Prints)
-
Open the envelope slowly. Use a letter opener or blade to slice along the edge—avoid cutting too deep.
-
Remove with both hands. The print will be secured between protective sheets and a backing board. Lift it carefully from underneath.
-
Keep the backing board until framing. This prevents bending or warping while the print is being handled or transported.
-
Avoid stacking items on top. Store the print flat, in its protective sleeve and with the board, until it is framed.
By following these instructions, you ensure that your fine art print remains in pristine condition until displayed.
